  • The Lotus plant has the symbol of religion and spiritual power in the history of Myanmar. Buddhists considered the lotus flower represents the successful, peaceful, fresh, graceful, and pure mind.

Because of its pristine value, Padonma Shwe Kyar is also known as the sacred lotus. Ancient Myanmar Kings used lotus flowers, buds, stems, and petals in wall paintings and statues.

All parts of the lotus plant are useful, stem for producing lotus fiber, luxury silk, flower for offering to Buddha, leaves for packing foods, meat, etc. Lotus leaves are also used as plates to decorate food. Lotus root and seed are also edible.

Lotus weaving started in Inn Paw Khon Village, Inn Lay Region, 20 years ago. In the past years, the weavers only produced lotus robes. They started to produce lotus scarves, shirts, and hats to attach tourists.

Lotus products are either pure lotus or mixed with silk or cotton. The Lotus fiber industry is increasingly promoted by the demand for international visitors and local users in Inlay which is a high economic impact on women, especially in rural areas where lotus is naturally available in Myanmar nowadays.
